A Hard Freeze tonight with a chance of light snow late Saturday

Friday, March 10, 2017 –

Good evening.  It has been a day of change.  We started the early morning with showers and a few thunderstorms.  The Tri-Cities Airport had a high of 52 with a low of 42 and .56″ of rain.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for the area tonight.  Low temperatures will fall to the low to middle 20’s.

Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for parts of western North Carolina with Winter Storm Watches for the mountain counties of east Tennessee.  Winter Weather Advisories have also been issued east of Boon into parts of the Piedmont of North Carolina. for Saturday night into Sunday.  The best chance of snowfall accumulation will be in the Winter Storm Warning.  Snowfall totals could be well over 4 inches.

I have been tracking this storms system for several days.  Each run of our computer model data takes the storm system farther and farther to our south.  We will see a chance of snow across the Tri-Cities, but right now I think accumulations would be light with some ares seeing close to an inch.  This is subject to change with the track of this system.

Take a look at this forecast map showing how the snow stays just south and then moves into North Carolina.

Noon Saturday – Light snow could be possible across the Tennessee Valley.

Saturday afternoon – Light snow will be possible.

Saturday Night – 6 PM – Snow moves into western North Carolina.

Sunday Morning- Notice the dark blue – that will be the best place for accumulating snow.

We will see some light snow int eh Tri-Cities early Sunday, but the best chance of several inches of snow will be across western North Carolina.

We stay cold through much of next week with another chance of rain and snow Tuesday with snow on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!
