Happy Wednesday everyone! Brian in with the blog tonight.
It was definitely a busy day of weather as we saw some showers and thunderstorms moving through. Some of these were strong/severe and caused wind damage in spots, especially in southwest Virginia.
Also in southwest Virginia, this house in Abingdon was stuck by lightning and caught on fire. Our Justin Soto says that the owners were out of town, and no firefighters sustained any injuries battling the fire.
With the storms came heavy rainfall. We set a new daily rainfall record at the Tri-Cities Airport today, where we picked up 1.65″ of rain. This broke the old record of 0.94″ set in 1991.
Heavy rains can lead to the risk of flooding, and some spots saw some higher water this afternoon and this evening. Take a look at this photo from Callie Franklin from Mohawk, TN.
We had some great photos from viewers of storm clouds earlier today. Take a look at this picture from Wendi Wagers.
Here are two photos, this time from Bill Mosby and Leah Johnson
Overall, our weather should be much quieter over the next few days. However, we could see some flurries as a cold front moves through on Friday. Expect warmer weather to return this weekend.
Here’s your 7 day forecast. Have a great night!
