DETROIT — Detroit Tigers left-handed pitcher Daniel Norris threw a side session on Friday, his first work since being placed on the disabled list with a strained groin.
The Tigers could activate him on Tuesday to start against the Kansas City Royals, although manager Brad Ausmus said that has not yet been decided.
Other options could be Matthew Boyd, currently at Triple-A Toledo, or Tigers long relievers Warwick Saupold and Chad Bell. Toledo starter Buck Farmer could also be considered for the start, although Ausmus said he experienced shoulder soreness in his most recent start.
Ausmus said Jordan Zimmermann would start Monday’s series opener in Kansas City.
Justin Verlander, Michael Fulmer and Anibal Sanchez will pitch this weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays.
