JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The Johnson City Police Department honored a fallen comrade Thursday.
The department’s training complex on Riverview Road was dedicated in honor of officer Rick Collins.
Collins was the head of training for the department for over a decade, even working part-time after retiring.
He died unexpectedly in 2015.
Collins served in law enforcement for more than 30 years, working with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and Elizabethton Police Department before coming to Johnson City.
It was with the JCPD that Collins fostered a love for training officers at the Riverview Drive training facility.
Law enforcement officers from all over the region, along with several city officials, attended the ceremony Thursday.
Collins’ wife, Vicki, was given the honor of unveiling the new sign dedicating the facility to her late husband.
