House fire on Lauralee Court in Abingdon, Va. caused by lightning

ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) – Fire crews have responded to a house fire in Abingdon, Va. Wednesday afternoon after lightning struck the roof and came out a front window of the home.

According to Abingdon, Va. Fire Department Chief John McCormick, a call about the house fire on Lauralee Court came in around 2:55 p.m. and when crews arrived they saw heavy flames coming out of the front window, as well as in the attic area.

McCormick said no one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

He said it took approximately 30 people put out the fire, but said they are still working to put out hot spots.

Washington County, Va. Fire and Rescue and Green Spring Fire Department also responded to the scene.
