BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) – Now that funds have been approved for a new road through The Falls shopping center in Bristol, the city’s mayor is hopeful the development will start to boom.
A brand new business opened there Wednesday – Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers.
“I think it’ll be the beginning of what starts building up here,” said Freddy’s General Manager Sherry Dishner.
It comes on the heels of Monday’s Buffalo Wild Wings opening.
“I think it’s going to draw more people in,” Disnner said. “That’s what we’re looking forward to, more shops and stuff coming in.”
Bristol city leaders said those additional shops are coming.
“There’s a few smaller shops in the building between the two restaurants there,” said Mayor Bill Hartley.
One of them is the haircutters, Sport Clips. The city also said Noire Nail Bar could be issued its building permit as early as next week, and the Tru Hotel by Hilton is coming too, though they couldn’t yet give a time frame.
“It’s moving along, you’ve got to remember that it was just a little over a year ago that Cabela’s opened and that Lowe’s opened,” Hartley said.
Back in September, Bristol, Virginia city council members voted to borrow $3 million to finish critical road projects around The Falls.
Hartley said that work is important for business and to keep the momentum going.
Project developers said the internal road goes to bid in February.
Once the bid is selected, construction will likely begin within 30 days.
