Sullivan County EMS collects items for Salvation Army Angel Tree

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – For three years the Sullivan County EMS has been working with the Salvation Army during their holiday season fundraising campaign.

Shift Captain Kevin Marsh said he and his team wanted to do something a little different last year.

Marsh said he and his team came up with the idea of the “Fill the Box” campaign to collect toys and clothes for the Angel Tree.

He added that their ambulances look like big boxes so each year they park them in front of the Walmart on Fort Henry drive and collect toys and clothes for children that are on the angel tree.

Merchants, when ever they come in and they are doing some shopping, if they would like to support the angel tree but they just don’t have the time or what ever, they can buy a toy or an outfit or anything. Our goal is to fill this ambulance with toys to give to kids in need”, said Marsh.

All of the items collected with go to the needy child even if they are not on the tree.

Marsh added, “That’s what this time of year is about. And really even for us, for the paramedics and the EMT’s that work for us, we get just as much enjoyment giving back to the community. “

He said the community has shown an outpouring of support and this is a holiday tradition that the EMS plans to continue for years to come.
