CHURCH HILL, TN (WJHL) – Church Hill Police Department officers have arrested an 18-year-old accused of robbing Quick Stop on East Main Street Sunday night.
According to a CHPD news release, Austin Allen Swarthout, of Mount Carmel, was charged with armed robbery and use of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
On Monday, detectives received information which led them and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies to Swarthout’s home and he was detained for questioning.
Swarthout’s home was later searched after a warrant was obtained and officers found many items used in the robbery, including clothing, shoes, gloves, bandanna, a weapon and $242 in cash. Police said the weapon turned out to be a “realistic looking, chrome plated BB pistol.”
According to the release, Swarthout signed a statement admitting to the robbery and was booked into the Hawkins County jail.
Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release later Tuesday evening that said Swarthout was charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm during a felony and two counts of aggravated kidnapping for the robbery of the Dollar General Store, located at 105 Francisco Lane near Mount Carmel on Sunday.
Swarthout is being held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond.
He was scheduled to appear in Hawkins County General Sessions Court on Dec. 14.
