ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) – Kayla Storie wanted to be a Dental Assistant, but a funny thing happened during her first two years of college, she realized what she really enjoyed was teaching.
Storie is now in her third year as a Kindergarten teacher at East Side Elementary School in Elizabethton.
Storie has fond memories of her Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Brown, at Happy Valley Elelementary. Now she’s the one at the head of the class. She says the most rewarding part of the job is watching her studens’ eyes light up when they learn to read.
Her goal is instill that kind of excitement in learning long after they’ve left her class.
“I just want to bring the fun back to learning. Everyone is so serious. I know we are pushing reading and Kindergarten and the foundation for that, but I want to make it fun so that it lasts when they get into the upper grades,” said Storie.
Congratulations to Kayla Storie! This week’s Educator of the Week.
