Interstate-81 south reopens near Fort Henry Drive exit after multiple crashes

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – The Kingsport Police Department reports as of 2:45 p.m. the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at mile-marker 60 reopened after multiple crashes were reported just before lunch hour on Tuesdsay.

Kingsport police say there were no serious injuries reported.

News Channel 11 is following multiple crashes, including a tractor trailer crash in Kingsport on Interstate 81 near the Fort Henry Drive exit.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the crashes occurred at mile marker 60 near the Fort Henry Drive exit.

The Kingsport Police Department reports a tractor trailer jackknifed and as a result the interstate is closed in that area.  In addition, three other crashes were reported in that area.

If you normally travel through that area, authorities asked that you avoid that location and seek another route until the crashes are cleared.

TDOT expects area to be cleared by 2:00 p.m.  According to officials, the southbound lanes are closed and the northbound traffic is also impacted  – with the left lane blocked.
