Gov. Haslam launches Tennessee Fosters campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — At this moment, there are more than 6,000 children in foster care across the Volunteer State.

There are more than 4,000 adults providing them with safe and supportive environments, but the need for more foster families is growing.

On Monday, Governor Bill Haslam and the First Lady launched the Tennessee Fosters campaign at Cross Point Church.

They plan to work with a variety of government organizations in hopes of encouraging more Tennesseans to become foster parents.

“We’re trying to encourage more people to come out and join the ranks of foster parents, whether they’re just foster parents or they ultimately end up adopting that child and becoming a part of their forever family,” said Gov. Haslam.

The Haslam family was also joined by state legislators, judges and local officials.

The effort is being led by America’s Kids Belong, a national organization that has launched similar campaigns in five other states.
