VA patient pleads guilty to attacking federal police officer

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – A Mountain Home VA Medical Center patient who attacked a federal police officer has pleaded guilty to the crime, according to federal court records.

In a signed plea agreement, Ricky D. Gosnell admitted to breaking the officer’s finger, injuring his hip and scratching his face and head during the February assault. The attack occurred after a doctor called for help while treating Gosnell, according to court records.

A federal judge will sentence the man on February 2, 2017. Gosnell faces up to eight years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
