Funeral arrangements set for Elizabethton toddler as accused step-father awaits extradition

ELIZABETHTON (WJHL) — Funeral arrangements have been made for a toddler from Elizabethton who died Tuesday night from serious injuries.

Threzakari2e year old Ja’kari Phillips died Tuesday after being rushed to the hospital last Friday.

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of his life on Sunday. The family will receive friends at Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.


Za’kari’s mother tells us she wants everyone to remember how happy he always was and that he loved music and loved to sing.

Ja’kari’s step-father, Demetrius Covington, is accused of murdering him. He disappeared after the boy was taken to the hospital.

Police found him six hours away in Dayton, Ohio. He is awaiting extradition back to Elizabethton.
