JONESBOROUGH, TN (WJHL) – A Tri-Cities family is spending the Thanksgiving holiday looking for a new home.
A fire destroyed the family’s current home in Jonesborough on Hensley Loop around 11 o’clock Thursday night.
“My grandson came running back to the bedroom and hollered at us the house was on fire,” said homeowner Faye Chrisman. “We’ve been here for 17 years and I figured we would just be here the rest of our days, but just in the blink of an eye it was all gone.”
Chrisman was home with her husband, daughter, and grandson. They all made it out safely, but she said her two dogs didn’t survive the blaze.
“I don’t know how it happened, what happened I don’t know,” she said.
Chrisman said she doesn’t know what started the fire, but saw flames and smoke in her living room. She also said she thinks the fire caused an oxygen tank to explode inside.
“The fire was just coming out the windows and coming out everywhere,” she said.
Now she’s left picking up the pieces, trying to move on from what she said still feels like a dream.
“Everybody’s alive, that’s the main thing. Everybody came out safe and alive,” Chrisman said.
It’s unknown what caused the fire. The Red Cross is providing shelter for the family for the next few days.
