JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Some lucky people in Johnson City got a free homemade pumpkin pie Wednesday as children and volunteers from Rise Up spread the Thanksgiving spirit.
The mentoring and youth development program prepared around 1,000 pies that were delivered in boxes decorated by the children in a project they called “Simply Just Because.”
Kids with pies showed up at people’s front doors, businesses and even at the WJHL station in Johnson City to put a smile on people’s faces.
Executive Director Michael Marion said no one is ever grumpy when they get free pie.
“We’ve been blessed,” Marion said. “We want to bless others and we believe that everyone ought to have their own pumpkin pie.”
