MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 22, 2016) – The No. 24 Milligan College women’s basketball team remained perfect in Appalachian Athletic Conference play and extended its winning streak to five games as the Buffaloes took down the Truett-McConnell University Lady Bears 80-72 on Wednesday night.
Milligan improved to 3-0 in the AAC and 5-2 overall. Truett-McConnell fell to 3-4 overall (1-2 AAC).
After taking the lead early in the first quarter, the Buffs couldn’t seem to catch a break as they only shot 5-for-13 from the field. The Lady Bears extended the lead to as many as 10 in the first quarter, but the Buffs battled back in the second. Lindsee Price, Sarah Robinson, and Morgan Gose combined for four steals to give Milligan a much needed spark. The Buffs pulled within one at the half, trailing 34-33.
Milligan would trade leads with the Lady Bears before taking over in the third quarter. Robinson, the AAC’s reigning player of the week got things started by draining a three as the shot clock expired early in the second half. Seniors Hayley Wyrick and Price got in on the action late in the third quarter with Wyrick scoring six straight and Price knocking down a three well beyond the arc at the buzzer to give the Buffs a 56-51 lead to end the third quarter.
The Buffs would not trail again in the game, and were able to extend their lead to 11 after a pair of three-pointers from Morgan Gose. Milligan would go on to defeat Truett-McConnell 80-72.
Wyrick led the Buffs in scoring with 24 points, followed by Robinson with 22, her third straight 20 point game. Also reaching double digits for the Buffaloes were Gose and Mackenzie Raizor with 12 and 11 respectively. Raizor led the Buffs with eight rebounds, followed by Robinson with seven.
