ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) – A new business has opened its doors in Abingdon and, by doing so, it has brought 300 new jobs to the region.
Store manager David Reed says he is happy that Wal-Mart decided to open up this new store. He says that not only is adding three hundred new jobs to the region will be great for the local economy, but having a closer place for people to shop is just icing on the cake.
“We are really excited about the jobs that are coming to the area. We have been able to bring your own approximately around 300 associates. I will say this, I’m really proud of the associates and the team we have built here”, said Reed.
The new store opened its doors on November 16th and is one of the larger stores in the area at almost 187,000 square feet.
At the grand opening, the store presented seven thousand dollars in grants to local agencies and organizations including the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
The new store is located at exit 19 off of I-81.
