BRISTOL, VA (WJHL)- A state-mandated audit revealed dozens of issues at Bristol Virginia Utilities. Friday the board met, discussing how to run the utility moving forward.

The audit revealed BVU gave money to businesses that have since closed down, and more than half a million dollars toward things for BVU like sports tickets. Now BVU is creating an economic development policy and has made a draft application to make sure ratepayer money isn’t misused.
“We wanted to share that with the board, get their input, and we’ll come back in December, make some final adjustments and be ready to go with adopting a formal policy,” CEO Don Bowman said.
Also at the meeting, discussion of the sale of BVU’s internet and cable division Optinet to Sunset Digital. Bowman said that deal is set to close by December 31st.
