Wise Co. courthouse to reopen Friday after sewer gas reported in building

UPDATE: Wise County Emergency Management officials confirmed that the Wise County Courthouse and Courts will reopen Friday.

Wise County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessica Swinney said that repairs to a roof exhaust motor failure, which caused sewer gas to build up in the courthouse, have been completed.

Swinney said that the air quality has also been tested.

WISE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – The Wise County Courthouse closed early Wednesday afternoon due to sewer gas reported in the courthouse.

According to a news release, the courthouse closed around 2:45 p.m. after a roof exhaust motor failure caused sewer gas to accumulate in the courthouse.

Fire crews and Wise Regional Hazmat were called as a precaution and employees were sent home.

According to the release, maintenance workers are still on-scene working to replace and repair the exhaust.
