Smoke in region impacting people with respiratory problems

TRI-CITIES (WJHL) – Smoke from wildfires hovering across the region is having a big impact on people with respiratory problems.

Cynthia Canter has asthma and says the air quality makes it difficult to do everyday tasks, like going to the store or playing outside with her granddaughters.

“I have not been able to stay outside more than a few minutes without getting choked up and start coughing and wheezing, so I stay inside,” she said.

Canter said she hasn’t been to the hospital, but is taking extra precautions, like wearing a mask when she goes out and using her inhaler extra.

The Tennessee Department of Health says those precautions are important.

They urge anyone with asthma or any other lung conditions to limit outdoor activities in these conditions.
