RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A nonprofit legal group says a lesbian couple in North Carolina has reached a settlement with the state after
they were denied birth certificates listing them both as parents of their two sons. Lambda Legal said state officials have agreed to
amend their documents to add the names of both Melissa and Meredith Weiss. The settlement comes more than a year after the
U.S. Supreme Court ruled that everyone has a fundamental right to the legal recognition marriage provides to families and children.
