JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2016) – ETSU sophomore running back Jajuan Stinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, which was announced Wednesday by the league office.
Stinson finished with 143 all-purpose yards, including a game-high 114 rushing yards and 29 yards receiving, in ETSU’s 23-16 Homecoming win over Cumberland on Saturday at Kermit Tipton Stadium.
Stinson – who has rushed for over 100 yards twice in his last four contests – posted the fifth 100-yard rushing game of his career, while he scored all three of ETSU’s touchdowns. The Knoxville, Tenn. native had two touchdown runs (1-yard and 26-yard), while he hauled in a 29-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Stinson became the first Buccaneer with a 3-touchdown game since Gaven Varner rushed for three touchdowns against VMI back on Sept. 21, 2003.
Stinson averaged 6.7 yards per rush and was not tackled behind the line of scrimmage in the win over the Phoenix.
Stinson is a sport management major and has a 3.346 grade point average.
The General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes that hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and whose sport is currently in-season. Nominees must have also completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions.
The Bucs wrap up their 2016 season on Saturday when ETSU hosts No. 18 Samford at Kermit Tipton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
