State, local leaders share new info on wildfires, arson investigations

DEL RIO, TN (WJHL) – Tennessee’s state and local leaders are gathering this afternoon in Del Rio, TN to provide more details about the wildfires that are currently affecting half the state.

Agriculture commissioner Jai Templeton, Safety and Homeland Security commissioner David Purkey and state forester Jere Jeter are expected to talk about efforts to preserve property and protect lives during the wildfire fight.

In addition, they are expected to reveal more details about ongoing arson investigations.

According to state officials, the TN Division of Forestry has responded to more than 1,000 wildfires this year. Almost half of those fires were suspected to be the result of arson.

News Channel 11 will be taking notes at the event. We’ll provide more details beginning on the news at 5:00 p.m.
