Man behind bars after 5 hour stand off with Washington county deputies

WASHINTON COUNTY VA (WJHL) – A Virginia man is facing charges after a five hour stand off with police and deputies from multiple agencies.

Deputies working with the Washington county sheriffs office were dispatched to 33231 Whispering pine lane in Damascus VA at the request of a welfare check by a family member.

When they arrived an incident between deputies and a man escalated forcing a stand off that lasted approximately five hours.

45-year-old Brian Harold Owens was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was transported to the Abingdon facility of the southwest Virginia regional jail where he is being held without bond.

Agents with Virginia State Police, Bristol VA Police, and local fire and rescue from Damascus assisted deputies in the stand off.
