Brief power outage in Johnson City caused by substation breaker

Johnson City Power Board workers fixed a breaker at a the utility’s primary substation near West State of Franklin Road and West Market Street on Friday morning, which briefly cause numerous outages across the city.

The power board’s website indicated at one point that more than 17,000 people were without power across Johnson City.

A JCPB spokesman said an issue with the breaker at that substation, which feeds three other substations, caused the problem. He said that, briefly, quite a few customers without power. The exact number was not immediately known; however reports of down lights along State of Franklin and North Roan Street were coming in, as well as reports that East Tennessee State University was without power.

All power outages caused by the breaker were expected to be restored by 12:30 p.m.
