ETSU students rally for safety in wake of election

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Demonstrators gathered Friday on the campus of East Tennessee State University, showing they are there for anyone who is feeling scared after the election results.

People held up signs telling people they are not alone.

They also handed out safety pins as a symbol of safety. They said if you see someone is wearing a safety pin, they are a safe person to talk to about your concerns.

This comes three days after Donald Trump’s win in the Presidential Election.

Patrick Cronin who is a Professor at ETSU says he’s never seen a reaction like this to an election.

“I’m feeling a lot of people feel more powered to say things they’ve been maybe feeling and that are quite harmful and I haven’t felt that in America before, really and that’s not good,” Cronin said.

Demonstrators say no matter your race, gender, or beliefs know they want people to know they are safe.
