Dozens gather in Greeneville to honor veterans at newly built memorial

GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL)- Friday in Greeneville dozens gathered to honor veterans for the first time at the new Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The American Legion Post # 64 of Greeneville and the Greeneville- Greene County Honor Guard hosted their annual veterans day service, and thanks to community fundraising the town now has a Veteran’s Memorial Park, with names of veterans inscribed in its stones.

“This new park has been a long planned and hoped for vision that has been tirelessly worked for to bring about a fitting and honorable memorial for the Veterans of Greene County,” American Legion Post # 64 Commander Grady Barefield said.

The Veterans Day Service also included a presentation to Greene County Gold Star Mothers (mothers of soldiers that have died in combat) as well as a tribute by the Greeneville–Greene County Honor Guard.
