Johnson City demonstrators show support of Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Dozens of people gathered in Johnson City Thursday evening to show their support of the ‘Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’ in North Dakota.

The people at that Native American Reservation are fighting against the Dakota Access Pipeline that’s being built there.

Jorja Green says Thursday’s demonstration was in hopes to show support to that tribe as well as raise awareness of the pipeline that’s being built on sacred lands.

“They’re not just opposing the construction of it on their land, they oppose it going underneath the water because that’s the source of water for 10,000 people on the reservation plus like 7 million people in the mid-west,” Green said.

Demonstrators plan to meet again next Tuesday at the intersection of Buffalo Street and State of Franklin Road.

They will also hold a fundraiser next Thursday from 1 until 10 at the Willow Tree.
