HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – News Channel 11 now knows that arson is the cause of a fire that’s been burning since Tuesday in Hawkins County. That’s according to the Tennessee Department of Forestry.
The fire is in Church Hill off of Laurel Run Road and Mountain View Road.
Mildred Head has lived on Mountain View Road her entire life.
“I’ve never seen nothing like this,” Head said.
She says the fire that’s burning directly behind her property concerns her.
“I worry all the time,” she said. “I’m afraid to go to bed of the night.”
Barabara White said she came to check on her sister’s home for her while she’s at work.
“I just came to check on the fire to make sure it wasn’t close to her house,” White said.
The fire has burned 200 acres, according to the Tennessee Department of Forestry.
The smoke continues to billow, causing problems for those who live nearby.
“It was so bad last night I had to shut the doors and I couldn’t go out anymore,” Head explained.
Crews continue to work, putting up barriers to make sure the fire doesn’t spread any more.
The Tennessee Department of Forestry said bulldozers were coming in Thursday to make barrier lines bigger, making it harder for the fire to spread.
