SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL)-A Sullivan County parent who repeatedly complained about the way Islam is taught went back before the board of education Monday night.
“The book is biased, it teaches a distorted view of Islam and fails to teach it in truth and entirety,” Edmisten said.
This time Michelle Edmisten’s push for change didn’t end with her speech.
Edmisten said she has now submitted an official textbook request form to the district.
Board Chair Michael Hughes said now that they’ve received this form, they will form a review committee to look at the textbook.
“A review committee will be put together to review that textbook, and options,” Hughes said.
Hughes couldn’t comment any further because as their attorney pointed out during the meeting, this textbook issue has now become a legal matter.
Edmisten told us after the meeting she now has legal representation in an effort to continue to push for change.
“I have retained the help and services of a non profit organization. I will keep coming back until something is done,” Edmisten said.
While the board said they will create a textbook review committee, they gave no definite timeline on when that will be complete.
