LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 72-year-old woman voted for the first time ever in Tuesday’s presidential election.

WKRN spoke with first-time voter Peggy Whittenburg outside of Cedar Grove Elementary in La Vergne.

“I never had any courage to vote in the last 30 years,” she said. “I hadn’t really seen anything to vote for. It’s definitely time for a change. We really need it.”

Whittenburg voted with her daughter, Tammy Smith, who was also a first-time voter. Her concerns for the country echoed those of her mother and she said she would also like to see some change.

“We need to make America great again – it’s falling apart. It’s really bad for the kids and all. I just want to see it get better,” Smith said.

Voting across much of Tennessee continues until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
