21-year-old takes pride in voting in 1st presidential election

Chloe McKenzie votes for the first time.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 21-year-old woman voted in her first-ever presidential election on Tuesday.

Chloe McKenzie told WKRN she walked into the polling location with excitement and anticipation.

“I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while now and had a lot of conversations with my dad,” she explained.

While McKenzie wasn’t old enough to vote in the last presidential election, she said she took this election seriously and she focused on the issues that were most important to her.

“It was definitely a different dynamic,” she explained. “It felt very grown up and adult-like and it was really great knowing I could come to him [my dad] for that kind of advice.”

The first-time voter said she is confident in her choice for the next president of the United States and poll workers clapped and celebrated her after she cast her vote.

“It makes me feel like I did something really great today,” McKenzie said. “And the fact that I did contribute to this election – I’ve never felt like that before.”

Montgomery County polls remain open until 8 p.m. EST. There are a total of 29 polling places in the county with 350 poll workers.
