GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) – Heather Fay spent over a decade coaching and mentoring a high school color guard team and then one day she realized she really enjoyed teaching young people and the rest as they say is history.
Fay is the 5th grade language arts and history teacher at Highland School in Greeneville, TN. She teacher 40 students throughout the course of the day.her class is full of activities and unique learning opportunities.
She says her classes is a student-driven environment and that allows her to get the most out of each lesson.
“I wanted to make sure that I created exciting and engaging lessons. So, I used a bunch of whole brain teaching which is songs and movements to remember information. I thought that was different from the way that I learned because when I learned we sat in desks, stared at the teacher and worked very quietly,” said Fay.
Fay also started a book bus after her first year. The bus travels throughout Greeneville in the summer giving students an opportunity to check out and read books during the summer months.
Congratulations to Heather Fay, This Week’s Educator of the Week.
