BRISTOL, VA (WJHL)- In less than a week communities across the nation will gather to say thank you to our veterans.
On Saturday people in Bristol lined the streets downtown for a parade to honor those who have served, and continue to serve our country.
High school bands from across the region, ROTC groups, and veterans associations walked down State St. For the annual Bristol Veterans Day Parade.
We found one couple from Lexington, Kentucky who were just passing through the area, saw the event, and decided to pay tribute.
“I just think its wonderful for people to go out and show the appreciation for everybody, and so we have a little 2-year-old grandson and we want to start early, teaching him to appreciate those who fought for us so we can live in this free country,” Jackie Warner said.
The parade ended with a traditional memorial service at Cumberland Square Park in Bristol.
