WOODRUFF, SC (WSPA) – Sheriff Chuck Wright says the heavy police presence in Woodruff Thursday afternoon is related to an Anderson County couple who has been missing since August 31.
Deputies found Kala Brown alive, but they have not found her boyfriend, 32-year-old Charlie Carver.
Sheriff Wright says she was chained up like a dog with a chain around her neck in a 30×15 metal container for two months.
Deputies said they heard her banging on the container.
Sheriff Wright says they may be dealing with a possible serial killer and there could be bodies on the property.
Deputies have been searching the property on Wofford Road since around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Currently, officers are searching the property with K-9’s, digging equipment and a helicopter.
A suspect, Todd Kohlhepp was taken into custody Thursday morning. He is currently being held at a detention center. The sheriff says he will likely be charged with at least one count of kidnapping.
He was on the property when they served the search warrant and he is listed as property owner of the land deputies are searching.
Kohlhepp is also listed as a sex offender on the SC registry for a 10/16/1987 conviction in AZ for Kidnapping.
