Robbery, handgun convictions make it 40 felonies for Tennessee man

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors say a Memphis man with 37 prior felony convictions has been found guilty of robbing a homeowner at gunpoint more than three years ago.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 49-year-old Paul Buchanan was convicted by a jury Tuesday of one count of aggravated robbery and two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. Buchanan escaped with $100 in cash in the April 2013 robbery.

Jurors were not told of Buchanan’s entire criminal history, which now includes 40 felony convictions. He faces up to 45 years in prison at sentencing.

Buchanan pleaded guilty last year to more than two dozen burglaries and thefts and was placed in a community corrections program for 24 years. But Buchanan never reported to his probation officer as required.
