Kingsport BOE signs school facilities letter of intent to “transform education in Sullivan County”

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- In 2014, parallel studies of the facilities with Kingsport City School System and Sullivan County Schools were conducted.

This week, the Kingsport Board of Education signed a letter of intend “regarding the collaboration to transform education in Sullivan County.”

The letter details the possibility of new schools and the transfer of current schools with a cost of $140 million.

“It’s a non-binding letter of intent. Really just to kind of lay out the framework so that there is some kind of common understanding, some common ground of what next steps will be as we move forward in this type of facilities agreement,” Andy True with KCS said.

Sullivan county officials must still sign off on the letter.
