Kingsport set to break ground on Centennial Park

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – In just over two weeks, Kingsport will break ground on a new park.

A ground breaking ceremony is set for Centennial Park on November 15th, with construction expected to begin shortly after.

Located on the corner of Cherokee and Main street, the park will include a history walk, a multi-purpose area that can house a stage and a fountain.

It’s part of the plan to celebrate the city’s 100th anniversary.

“To leave behind something that could commemorate the 100 years, but also at the same time be something we could look toward the future on,” said Chris McCartt, Assistant City Manager for Administration.

The total project will cost about $1.8 million from private donations and the city of Kingsport.

City leaders say they hope to have the park completed in June of 2017.
