JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 1, 2016) – The best fans in the Southern Conference got the chance to enjoy free pizza and meet the 2016-17 ETSU women’s basketball team on Tuesday night inside Brooks Gym at Holding Court: Pizza & Practice presented by Johnson City Honda.
In front of nearly 400 Buccaneer fans, the women’s team hit the court and showed the Buc faithful drills they work on each and every day in practice. Fourth year head coach Brittney Ezell then got on the microphone and talked with the crowd about their importance this upcoming season.
“This event is always fun, interacting with our fans and letting them get out on the floor and be a part of the team,” said Ezell.
The highlight of the night was early on when a young ETSU fan stormed the court with excitement in hopes of making a basket. The crowd roared as he had a few attempts cling off the backboard before freshman Kelci Marosties grabbed the miss attempt and put it back in for the score.
Overwhelmed with excitement the young ETSU fan fell to the floor before racing up to receive his free t-shirt and grab a hug from both Marosites and Ezell.
“That little guy that jumped out onto the court, I will remember that for the rest of my life,” said Ezell. “It was fantastic.”
Ezell introduced the team and the coaching staff one-by-one before jumping into contests for the fans including a shooting competition and a five on five defense/offense drill. Along with giving away free t-shirts, the big prizes of the night were two tickets given away to the Vanderbilt home game on December 8 and the Old Dominion home game on Dec. 28.
ETSU will be in action this Sunday, Nov.6 at 4:00 pm. inside Brooks Gym when the Bucs take on Emory & Henry in their lone exhibition contest. The blue and gold then begin preparations for their regular season opener on the road at Big East opponent Butler on Friday, Nov.11 at 7:00 p.m.
