Several hundred acres are estimated to have burned since a fire started near Chimney Top Mountain in Greene County about a week ago.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around Chimney Top, as firefighters from the U.S. Forestry Service worked to contain the blaze.
Brad Ball, with the Forestry Service, said control lines around the fire have been put in place by firefighters working by hand and with bulldozers. No homes were in danger but firefighters would be monitoring the fire until it is burned out, he said. The fire was 100 percent contained but still burning.
The smoke seen billowing up from the mountain was being produced largely from the containment efforts.
