JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Profanity and obscene phrases were spray painted around Science Hill High School’s campus.
News Channel 11’s Micah Smith observed 11 different spray painted phrases around the quad area.
Johnson City School’s Supervisor of Communication Dr. Debra Bentley told us, the vandalism happened overnight.
“This is a beautiful campus, our students take a great deal of pride, but we want to certainly identify the person who is responsible for this damage,” said Bentley.
Bentley said maintenance crews used chemicals and a pressure washer to remove the graffiti.
“We have the Johnson City Police Department here, and we’re right now trying to find out evidence to support who might have vandalized the school,” she said.
Some of the graffiti included references to Dobyns-Bennett High School, Science Hill’s biggest rival who they play tonight in a football match.
Kingsport City Schools’ Andy True said they are assisting Science Hill.
“We’re working together as the investigation continues, and we’ll continue to do so, so that we can get a resolution and get to the bottom of what happened,” said True.
The team work, True said, is important because neither school condones this morning’s behavior.
“For many decades Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill had a very healthy rivalry, and we want to continue to foster that in a positive healthy way,” said True.
The investigation is still ongoing. At last check, a Johnson City police report had not yet been completed.
