Bucs Bridges, Tarter named Preseason All-SoCon; ETSU picked fourth

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 27, 2016) – On Thursday the Southern Conference announced its 2016-17 preseason all-conference teams with senior Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) and junior Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) representing ETSU. The Bucs were picked to finish fourth by the league’s head coaches and media.
A season ago, Tarter earned First Team All-SoCon honors averaging 17 points per game during conference play. Despite missing eight games early in the season, the Johnson City, Tenn., native led the Bucs with 17.0 points per game while recording two double-doubles.
Bridges was named Second Team All-SoCon for the second straight year last season after averaging 15.2 points per game for the Bucs. Bridges led the SoCon in three-pointers made with 76 and ranks second all-time in ETSU history with 199 career three’s. Against Wofford on Feb.4, Bridges became the 22nd member of the 1,000-point club.
It’s the second straight season that both Bridges and Tarter have been named Preseason All-SoCon.
The Bucs were selected to finish fourth by both the league’s head coaches and media. ETSU received 31 votes by the league’s head coaches, just one away from Samford who was selected third. Overall, Chattanooga was picked to win the conference by both polls.
ETSU will open up the preseason slate next weekend when the Bucs take on Emory & Henry in an exhibition contest on Sunday, Nov.6 at 4:00 p.m. inside Brooks Gym. The regular season for ETSU begins the following week on Friday, Nov.11 on the road at Big East opponent, Butler.
