4-year-old Nashville girl wants apology from pumpkin smasher

BELLEVUE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Halloween spirit seems to be missing on Harpeth Bend Drive in Bellevue.

Neighbors told WKRN you won’t see pumpkins on porches because they were tricked and their jack-o-lanterns were all smashed over the weekend.

Denise Thomas had two pumpkins snatched from her front porch over and smashed in the roadway.

“People smash pumpkins sometimes, but a week before Halloween? I mean come on. It was every single house. I mean it wasn’t just a few pumpkins, it was our whole neighborhood. It was just kind of crazy, it was shocking,” Thomas said.

A few streets away, a neighbor caught video of someone taking a pumpkin from the home of a 4-year-old girl.

“I want to say ‘you should say sorry’ because he [has] been bad,” Caitlin Korando explained to WKRN.

The pumpkin smasher broke this little girl’s heart.

“I was so sad and I was surprised that our pumpkin was going to be gone,” Caitlin said.

The smasher also took away precious plans for the Thomas family.

“I have a 1-year-old – it’s her first Halloween – so you know that’s fun. We would have liked to get some pictures of her by the pumpkins and I just like to have the pumpkins out for the trick-or-treaters for when they come by. It’s just kind of welcoming you know,” said Thomas.

Thomas hopes the pumpkin smasher is caught.

“If they are caught I would like them to come to my front door, apologize and replace my two pumpkins.”

Some may dismiss pumpkin smashing as kids having fun, but the person who snatched these families’ pumpkins could actually face theft of property charges.

Caitlin, however, believed the pumpkin smasher had other plan.

“He wanted to have pumpkin pie, but we wanted to have pumpkin pie,” she explained.

The conversation on Facebook even has some neighbors discussing holding an organized pumpkin smashing event after Halloween.
