JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Changes are on the way at the Johnson City Power Board. During its monthly meeting, the board voted to become an energy authority, a likely new name for the JCPB: The Johnson City Energy Authority.
The authority will remain a public, nonprofit, governmental organization.
The transition to an authority allows it to provide additional services like internet and cable through private partnerships outside Johnson City. This is not a done deal just yet, the Secretary of State must approve the change.
The Power Board’s existing debt must be refinanced, the current contract with TVA and all the power board’s assets must also be transitioned to the authority.
