ETSU preparing for “dogfight” against Citadel

JOHNSON CITY, TN- The ETSU football team snapped its four game losing streak on Thursday night, taking down West Virginia Wesleyan 38-7. But the Bucs must now prepare for the top squad in the Southern Conference, squaring off against the #5 ranked team in the country, 7-0 Citadel on Saturday.

“We know we’re getting ready to get into a dogfight this week,” said ETSU head coach Carl Torbush.

The Bulldogs are 5-0 in conference play, beating Chattanooga and Wofford the last two weeks. Much like Wofford, Citadel runs a triple-option attack, something ETSU struggled with at Wofford. The Bucs knows this is going to be a huge challenge, but this is what they signed up for when they joined the SoCon.

“I think an exciting time for our football program and team,” said Torbsuh. “Obviously, we’ve faced several teams that are ranked in the top ten of FCS football right now. So it’s going to give us a chance to see where we are, where we need to go, where we are to have a chance to compete at some point for a SoCon championship because this is the type of team that we’re going to play week in and week out and this is the kind of team that we’ll have to beat if we’re going to have a chance to win a SoCon championship at some point.”
