SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Law enforcement officers from around the region gathered Friday morning to honor a special member of their community.
District Attorney Barry Staubus presented the Mark Vance Memorial Award to Sullivan County Detective Tracy Haraz.
The award was created in memory of Bristol Tennessee Police Officer Mark Vance who was killed while responding to a domestic violence call in 2007.
Each year, Sullivan County leaders give the award to a special member of law enforcement during domestic violence awareness month in October.
This year’s recipient, Detective Haraz, was honored for her work with domestic violence victims, specifically her work with children.
“For all the people they could have chosen they chose me, and I just want make Mark’s mother proud,” said Haraz.
Vance’s parents attended the Award ceremony.
