KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville area leaders were set to come together Friday night to dedicate a bridge in honor of teen hero Zaevion Dobson.

State Rep. Eddie Smith said he and local leaders, including former Rep. Joe Amrstrong, planned to name the bridge crossing Interstate 275 at Heiskell Avenue for Dobson. The ceremony was set to take place at the beginning of halftime during the Fulton-West high school football game.

The 16-year-old was gunned down last December while trying to protect two girls. Two men – Richard Williams and Christopher Bassett – have been charged with murder and attempted murder.
