JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The Johnson City Commission Thursday night approved the transition of the Johnson City Power Board to an Energy Authority.
Power Board CEO Jeff Dykes said the new Johnson City Energy Authority will remain a public, non-profit entity. Two-thirds of the board of directors will be appointed by the City Commission.
Dykes said it will be a seamless transition for both customers and employees. He also said the new authority will now be able to engage in public and private partnerships.
“We hope it’s going to allow us to diversify the company by looking at solar, looking at battery storage, looking at telecommunications enterprises that maybe we can offer our customers,” said Dykes.
Power Board officials said they are now looking ahead to about a three month transition period.
