Kingsport paints blue line on Shelby, Clay streets in honor of police

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Kingsport is honoring its local law enforcement with a nice gesture.

If you drive by the Kingsport Justice Center, you’ll notice a thin blue line painted between the yellow lines on Shelby Street and Clay Street.

City officials say they painted the blue line to show support for local law enforcement officers.
“We’re proud to show our support for those individuals who work so hard to keep us safe,” said City Manager Jeff Fleming. “This is just a small way to help bring attention to the great work our police department does.”

Historically, the thin blue line has been used to honor fallen officers and symbolize the duty of police to protect citizens from criminals.

It also represents the public appreciation of such a professional police force.
