MARION, VA (WJHL) – First responders in Marion, Virginia rescued a hiker who fell and broke her leg near the summit at Molly’s Knob.

Crews got the call about the injured hiker around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Nate Clark with Hungry Mother State Park Police said it took some time to get to the patient because of the steep terrain.

Crews used ATV’s and 4-wheelers to reach the injured woman.

Clark said they actually had to carry her to the top of the mountain so a Virginia State Police helicopter could hoist her out by a basket.

After that operation was completed, the woman was placed into the helicopter at a landing zone and flown to the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Clark said the woman was talking before being taken to the hospital.

He said she does not live in the area.

Marion Fire-EMS, Chilhowie Fire and Hungry Mother Park Police all responded.

Clark said the responding agencies did a great job working in a professional and efficient manner.
